I picked this book up after one of my favorite authors recommended it to me over dinner while I was in Wisconsin. She described it as "Anna and the French Kiss... with sex." Since AatFK is one of my all-time favorite YA books — and I like my books with sexy times — I wasted no time in buying this one. In fact, I even started it on the plane on the way back from Wisconsin. Which was kinda perfect considering the opening scene takes place on a plane. (And had me literally laughing out loud to the point where I had to tell my seatmates/friends/work colleagues what was so funny.) So any book that has me crying with laughter in the first chapter is one I'm bound to love. I didn't know just how much I'd wind up loving it when it was all said and done though. (Spoiler: A LOT.)

This book. It did things to my heart. Both Sam and Nina were wonderful characters and I fell in love with them from the start. From their ridiculously awkward first meeting to the times they spent traveling together as friends until they finally gave in and went for more together, I adored them. They quickly became two of my all-time favorite NA characters. Nina was so awkward. I can relate to her. Sam as swoony as can be and sensitive. Together? They were nothing short of perfection. They had crazy chemistry. They understood each other in a way others in their lives hadn't. Yes, they were both hiding something, but they had to really trust each other before they could start to tell. So not only was this a great (and super sexy) romance, it was a funny, awkward and charming coming of age story. Bonus? It was pretty low on the angst scale, too. Hooray!

Of course, I'm a sucker for any type of "trip" books so this fed that need, too. I loved the setting and I felt like I was right there with them the whole time. If I ever go on a trip to New Zealand (or any other country, to be honest) I hope I run into a pair like Nina and Sam. I just know we would totally be friends in real life. I seriously could go on and on and on (and on) about all the things I loved about Chasing Crazy, but no one wants to read that. I'll just leave it at this: I loved everything. There's not one little single thing I would change about it. It's one of my favorite NA books to date and one that I'll reread over and over again when I'm in the mood for a lot of laughs and a fair amount of teary feels. I loved the words and Kelly's writing. (As evident by the number of passages/quotes I highlighted in my copy... and have listed below.) If you're a NA fan and you've not yet read this book, drop everything and pick it up immediately. You won't be sorry.

Kelly is definitely one of my new favorite authors of 2016. Between this book and her Over the Top series, she's hit "autobuy/autoread" author status. I can't wait to see what's next. (Actually, I know what's next... the third book in the Over the Top series and I am DYING to get my hands on it! Nico! Raven! Finally!)

Chasing Crazy Kelly Siskind 9781455565207 Books Reviews

Holy frickin sh*t !!! Did I enjoy this novel !!!

Like seriously. I really really really enjoyed this novel.

Over the last few month I have been in a readers block; unable to start AND finish a novel. Despite the 72 books I have started on my kindle I have yet to finish a single one. Chasing Crazy is the first book I've finished in 2 months. That's gotta tell you something ...

To escape a viral video of her humiliation and the unwanted fame that came with it, Pininfrina decides to pack up and leave it all behind ... literally. On a whim, she grabs the essentials, writes her parents a 3 sentence note and buys a random ticket to New Zealand on the hopes of finding her inner "goddess". What she didn't expect to find was One-Syllable Sam. From the embarrassing moment of their first meeting to traveling the country together both Sam and Nina are looking for their "normal" but instead they find their crazy ... and love.

Nina ... what a well developed and well written character. She was funny, witty, smart, dorky, nerdy, clumsy, engaging, charming and so damn adorable. She was a character written realistically. There was something so honest and real about her, I felt like I was reading the inner monologue of a close friend. Everything about this character was on point; from her weirdness and millions of phobias to her excessive word vomit, she made you wish you could find a friend like her.

Sam ... I wanted to love him and shield him from the world all at the same time. Both very deep emotions to feel for a character. That's just how real he felt as well. There are very few female authors who are able to pen the thoughts of a male character without any problems. Either they are too tough or too feminine. This author hits the mark on the head. She was able to create such a strong but emotional male lead that you can't help but fall for him. Sam's character was strong, resilient, caring, kind, sweet, funny, and loving all wrapped up in a hot package of muscles. His accident and the results from it tugged at my heart strings. The author successfully balanced that thin line between masculinity and vulnerability making Sam a very endearing character.

This novel was the full package. Funny and romantic. I laughed so hard at Nina and her many many mishaps, and I swooned just as hard watching her and Sam fall in love. I enjoyed the enemies to friends plot between Nina and Leigh. Even though I think she was mean and abrasive, she had an air of honesty about her that made her the perfect best friend for Nina. It would be fun to read a story involving Nina's "hippie weed loving" parents. I could see my self falling over and laughing just from the thought of it. Actually there was some co-characters that would make an interesting story as well ... like Sam's sister or his cousin. There's a lot of potential for the author to keep this story going by making it a series. I would love to read more about Sam and Nina. Their love story was so paradox and quirky but so damn satisfying I couldn't get enough.

My ONE and only complaint which is the same reason I gave it 4 stars was the ending ... The entire story build up to high levels just to fall somewhat flat. I didn't like how at the last minute in the last chapter, Nina faces a life changing challenge and its just brushed over. No explanation and no story. It seemed kind of rushed through. Even their eventually reuniting lacked something real. Not sure why the author decided to end it the way she did but I can forgive her if it means she'll continue their story.

Overall, I was very pleased with this novel; the writing, the story, the characters, the love, the "sexy times", the friendship, the scenery that was described and the message the story portrayed be yourself, love yourself and accept yourself even if no one else does. Want to laugh and fall in love? Get this novel. And do yourself a favor ... read "The Public Speaking Incident" first before you start the novel. It's one of those "you shouldn't laugh but you can't help it" moments but it gives you a better and deeper understanding of Nina's character before starting her journey.
Pininfarina Gabri is a walking disaster magnet. Everywhere she goes calamity is sure to follow. After being laughed out of her first day of university classes, she packs up, writes a note, and hops on a plane to the other side of the world. Only to find she can't escape her crazy.

Sam, lovely One-syllable Sam, never expected to get caught up in the hurricane that is Pininfarina when he boarded his plane to New Zealand. All he wanted was a good time, to escape, and maybe recapture a piece of the boy he lost after his accident. But fate had other plans for him.

Chasing Crazy is one of those books that you fall in love with from the first page. With a captivating writing style, incredibly memorable characters, and plenty of swoon-worthy moments, Siskind more than delivers with her debut novel. You'll find yourself cringing right along with Nina, aching during those moments you can no doubt relate to, and laughing out loud at her antics. And then there's Sam, frickin' Hot Guy. I dare you not to fall in love with him. Sam is absolutely everything you want in a romance hero--strong, sexy, sweet--but with enough insecurities and baggage of his own to make him feel thoroughly real.

Chasing Crazy is brimming with heart, humor, and a little something special that belongs just to Siskind. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
